A cargo plane crashed overnight while transporting supplies, believed to be logistical equipment to Kenyan troops stationed in the district of Dhoobley in Somalia’s Lower Jubba province.

The plane crashed as it attempted to land at the airstrip late last night. Upon impact, the plane was partially engulfed in flames. The pilot was killed instantly, while two more crew more sustained serious injuries according to sources that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity.

Its not cleared what caused the crash. Kenyan military officials remain tight lipped over the issues. Likewise the local Somali authorities are unwilling to address the suspicious crash landing.

The district of Dhoobley situated deep in the heart of southern Somalia hosts a large Kenyan military base and the district itself remains under the occupation of the Kenyan Defense Force (KDF).

The Kenyan military has maintained a presence in Dhoobley and large parts of the Jubba Valley and the nearby Gedo province following Kenya’s invasion of Somalia in 2011, which was followed by a subsequent military occupation that continues til this day.
