Protests erupted this morning in the city of Hargeele, the provincial capital of Afdheer province in the Ogaden, which quickly evolved into riots according to local contacts that spoke to Halgan Media.

The demonstrations and subsequent riots where due to resentment towards the Somali Democratic Party (SDP) and the interim president Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) as a result of what many are calling a biased and flawed (s)election process for the 9 executive committee members and 61 central committee members that where (s)elected.

Not a single individual hailing from Afdheer province was picked following the three day conference hosted by the Somali Democratic Party (SDP) in Jigjiga. The administration of Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) is yet to address the concerns of there constituents in Afdheer province. Similiar protests took place in the nearby by town of Jarati.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
