Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal of a massive troop movement in the capital Jigjiga.

Local residents in Jigjiga confirm a heightened security presence in the city, with units from the Liyuu Police paramilitary force spotted throughout the cities bustling neighborhoods.

The bulk of the Liyuu Police presence in Jigjiga is concentrated in the “Xafaada 5aad” and “Xafaada 6aad” neighborhoods, which mainly house foreign settlers that hail from the ethnic Amhara community.

The surge in paramilitary forces comes following in uptick of violence that plagued mainland Ethiopia earlier this week following the killing of a prominent ethnic Oromo musician, which was followed by a series of raids targeting opposition figures and dissidents.

The situation in Jigjiga remains calm at the moment, however many of the locals are fearful that the unrest plaguing the neighboring Oromo regional state might spill over in the Somali region (Ogaden)
