67 members of the Addis Ababa based Baldera Council where arrested in simultaneous raids this morning according to a statement released by Nadros Abeba, a Executive member of the newly formed Untity Party.

The Unity Party is a newly formed Amhara dominated opposition party aligned with the Addis Ababa based Baladera Council – A non state actor organized to advocate for the cause of Addis Ababa and it’s Amhara residents.

The statement released by Nadros Abeba comes days after a botched coup attempt to violently overthrow the Ethiopian government. All 67 suspects arrested during the raids today have been charged with “Acts of Terrorism” in connection with the failed coup de’tat.

Tension remains high in the country in particular between the warring ethnic groups. The brazen coup attempt nearly pushed the country on the brink of collapse. The heavy handed response by Abiy Ahmed targeting oppposition members was expected but what comes next remains a mystery.
