Scores of camels perished over the weekend in various villages near Galaadi district in Doolo province. Local contacts reveal nearly a hundred camels died after falling victim to an unknown disease, which has wiped out entire herds.

Halgan Media correspondents based in Galaadi have confirmed a total of 91 camels have died in the surrounding villages of Qaloocan, Dhudub, Baxdi and Labile. The brunt of camel deaths took place in the village of Dhudub, in which 64 camels perished.

Pastoralists in the area are completely baffled by the sudden deaths of camels in such huge numbers. What’s more concerning is that nobody seems to know what caused the camels to suddenly die.

The makeshift clinic in the Galaadi district is unable to determine the type of disease that wiped out the camels, which has locals even more worried about a wider outbreak.
