Somalia’s National Intelligence & Security Agency (NISA) detained and subsequently arrested half a dozen journalists today in the capital Mogadishu.

Local media reports reveal the incident occurred in the bustling KM4 area, commonly referred to as “Number Afar”. The identities of the journalists have not been released yet but it’s been revealed the journalists work for Goobjoog News, the leading anti government media outlet in the country.

It’s still not clear what prompted the arrest but many believe its due to the relentless TV and radio broadcasts from Goobjoog spewing anti government rhetoric. The current well being and whereabouts of the journalists are unknown at the moment.

Goobjoog has still not commented on the arrests of there journalists, which are all presumed to be under arbitrary detention at the hands of Somalia’s intelligence agency (NISA).

Somalia’s notorious intel agency (NISA) is yet to comment on these latest human rights abuses. However this is not the first time nor will it be the last time that NISA target individuals or groups for politically motivated purposes on behalf of president Farmaajo and his regime.

The regime in Mogadishu has a history of rampant human rights abuses throughout the country. The former UN envoy to Somalia Nicholas Haysom was expelled from the country in early 2019 after he called out the Somali government for massacring civilians in the city of Baydhabo.

Rights groups such as Amnesty International have spewed similiar accusations as well. A damming report published by Amnesty International earlier this year directly implicated the Regime in Mogadishu for horrific human rights abuses targeting journalists and the press.
