Fierce gun fire erupted outside the Somali border town of Tuliguuleed tonight. Local contacts that spoke with Halgan Media on anonymity reveal Oromo Militants launched a cross border on the outskirts of the town, targeting the nearby village of Malowleh.

Residents confirmed the death of one person. That victim has been identified as Jamal Cabdi. Following the onslaught residents say smoke was seen billowing from the sky’s above the village of Malowleh.

Many families in the village of Malowleh began fleeing in the middle of the night to the nearby Somali border town of Tuliguuleed to avoid further cross border attacks. Tonight’s killing of a defenseless civilian in Malowleh is the second cross border targeting the Somali border town of Tuliguuleed and its surrounding areas in less than a week.

The relentless onslaught and subsequently siege targeting Somalis in the border region continues with impunity. The Somali regional administration based in the capital Jigjiga continues to blatantly ignore and overlook the plight of fellow Somalis on the door step, which makes the situation even more dangerous.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
