An online event about preventing opioid overdoses is planned this month in the wake of several overdoses among members of the Somali-American community in the US state of Minnesota.
Community Interfaith Dialogue on Islam is partnering with WInona State University-Rochester for the educational event on Zoom and Facebook Live.
The virtual event at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 will include a demonstration on how to administer Naloxone, commonly known under the brand name Narcan, to reverse an overdose. This is crucial to saving the lives of those that overdose if emergency responders are not at the scene.
The instruction and demonstration will be led by Dr. Amber Fielder with the assistance of WSU nursing students. It’ll take place from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Narcan kits will be distributed to the public curbside at 400 Fourth St SE in Rochester.
In addition to WSU-Rochester nursing and addiction counseling programs and CIDI, the event is sponsored by the Diversity Council, Community Pathways to Family Health and Recovery and Rochester for Justice.
