Rival polictal Factions in the Amhara region of Ethiopia have a struck a deal according to state owned media outlets. The Amhara Democratic Party (ADP), which is the ruling party in Ethiopia’s northern Amhara region inked a mutual agreement with National Movement of Amhara (NAMA).
Both sides agreed to work together for the greater good of there constituents according to a report published by Addis Standard. The ADP is one of the four branches of the ruling coalition dubbed the EPRDF Junta, while NAMA is a newly formed right wing political party.
The deal between the two sides comes as Ethiopia inches closer to national elections, slated for May 2020. No further detail was released regarding the agreement between both factions.
The Amhara ethnic group, which is Ethiopia’s third largest ethnic group has been embroiled in controversy and turmoil following the failed coup attempt by Amhara extremists in June of this year.
