A suicide bomber rammed a vehicle laden with explosives at a Taxation office early this morning in the Somali capital Mogadishu, situated adjacent to the city’s bustling seaport.

The militant attempted to drive through a checkpoint manned by Government troops where he immediately encountered a hail of bullets from the troops guarding the facility. The hail of bullets was followed by a blast as the suicide bomber detonated his vehicle.

Plumes of smoke where spotted hovering over the vicinity of the blast moments after the insurgent detonated his explosives. At least 5 soldiers are confirmed to have been wounded in the blast according to state owned media.

The Al Aqaeda affiliated armed  group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. The militants routinely target government buildings and venues as seen with this mornings attack.

This latest attack targeting the Taxation office comes just a day after a military convoy carrying Foreign troops hailing from Uganda struck a roadside bomb while on patrol in the volatile Huriwaa district of northern Mogadishu.
