Five people where killed and several more wounded during a suicide bombing in the volatile Somali capital of Mogadishu.
The militant reportedly detonated his explosive vest in the vicinity of the Blue Sky restaurant, which is popular with government troops and situated next to an army checkpoint leading to the presidential palace.
A member of the presidential guard along with an agent from Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) where among those killed in the suicide bombing.
The body of an unidentified young child was also found at the scene of the blast. The militant group Al Shabaab have claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released on the pro militant website dubbed Somali Memo.
The Al Shabaab suicide attack coincides with the arrival of a high profile US delegation from the Pentagon and State Department. Its not clear at the moment, whether today’s attack was in response to the arrival of the senior US delegation.
