The Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has released a statement following the meeting of its executive committee. The former ruling Junta touched on various issues relating to national elections.

The statement from the TPLF accused Ethiopia’s ruling coalition dubbed the Prosperity Party of infringing on the constitution and numerous other crimes. They statement went further as the TPLF lambasted the current regime and vowed to hold elections in its autonomous ethnic enclave in northern Ethiopia.

However, the TPLF did not mention an exact date for when they’ll hold elections but where adamant about holding elections sometime this year. The former ruling Junta also warned the government about extending there mandate, which they deemed illegal and unconstitutional.

Tension between the TPLF and prime minister Abiy Ahmed has been ongoing since the latter was ousted from power in 2018. Relations between both sides has only soured, following the current regimes decision to postpone national elections.
