Troops loyal to the semi-autonomous Southwest regional state of Somalia raided a home belonging to the former regional president Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden in the city of Baydhabo in the Bay province of Somalia.
Security sources that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity reveal the assault was led by local security forces under the direct orders of Isak Ali, the minster of security for the semi-autonomous Southwest state.
Upon launching the assault on the residency, one of the guards at the home was brutally beaten by the advancing troops and pistol whipped, and stripped of his weapons which included a standard issued AK-47 and a handgun.
Following the attack on the guard, the home was ransacked by the local security forces with the Southwest state minister of security, Isak Ali at the scene. The troops went on a rampage and looted any item deemed valuable per sources.
Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden was not at the residency during the time of the raid but is expected to arrive in the city of Baydhabo in the coming days. Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden is currently a presidential candidate for the upcoming national elections slated for early next year.
Local authorities from the Southwest state have not addressed the raid carried out by there forces on the home of Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden. Its widely believed the attack on the home of Sharif Hassan was politically motivated and orchestrated by the ruling Junta in Mogadishu.
The central government of Somalia based in the capital Mogadishu has repeatdly threatned rival presidential canditates vying for the top seat and even directly intimated several members from the opposition camp.
