A deadly ambush in Western Ethiopia led to the death of two UN aid workers according to the Amharic branch of DW Germany. The incident occurred in Ethiopia’s volatile Gambella region, which is adjacent to war torn South Sudan.
The aid workers that where gunned down where employed by Action Against Hunger (AAC), which is an NGO under the UN. The victims were reportedly in transit from the organization’s 24-hour pediatric Nutrition Stabilization Center in Nguenyyiel Refugee Camp when they were ambushed by masked gunmen.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The perpetrators that conducted the Ambush reportedly escaped the scene. A joint unit of Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) and Local Security forces from the Gambella regional state conducted cordoned off the area after the killing.
