A series of Al Shabaab attacks have forced non ethnic Somali school teachers to flee the occupied NFD region. Pro government media outlets reveal that the Teacher Service Commission of Kenya dubbed TSC has issued the evacuation of non Somali teachers in the conflict ridden region.
At least 869 non Somali teachers have been evacuated from the Wajir county in the NFD region as a result of rampant Al Shabaab attacks.
According to the TSC some 324 out of 587 secondary school teachers operating in Wajir county had fled while 545 out of 1,208 primary school tutors.
As a result, 10 schools have been left without a single teacher while 72 schools are currently being run by headteachers only.
A similar scenario is taking place in nearby Mandera county as 84 non Somali teachers have been evacuated due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation and uptick in Al Shabaab attacks.
In recent weeks, the Al Shabaab militant group has a carried over a dozens attacks targeting the Kenyan military and non Somalis in the occupied NFD region. This uptick in violence has shook authorities in Nairobi to the core who are unable to prevent or even deter these brazen attacks.
Al Shabaab have a reputation for terrorizing non Somalis in the occupied NFD region, in response to the blatant war crimes and atrocities unleashed by the Kenyan military in the occupied NFD region and occupied southern Somalia.
Kenya has been in the crosshairs of Al Shabaab attacks since there invasion of Southern Somalia in 2011 and the subsequent occupation that continues til this day.
Extrajudicial killings, abductions and horrific massacres carried out against Somalis in the occupied NFD region at the hands of Kenya’s notorious military have also fueled the insurgency in the volatile region.
