The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) which oversees US military operations on the African continent has taken credit for a recent air strike in Somalia, targeting Al Aqaeda linked Militants from the armed group Al Shabaab.

Per AFRICOM – the strike targeted an Al Shabaab compound in the city of Sakkow in Somalia’s Middle Jubba province. No casualties where reported in the strike, however several insurgents fled the scene following the strike, according to the press release from AFRICOM.

Halgan Media correspondents based in the Jubba Valley are unable to corroborate the AFRICOM claims of no civilian casualties knowing the Middle Jubba province is fully under the control of Al Shabaab and remains cut off from the outside world and therefore impossible for journalists to access, let alone assess the aftermath of any US (drone) strike.

In the past, rights groups such as Amnesty International have directly implicated AFRICOM for committing war crimes in Somalia as a result of there murderous drone campaign being waged in war torn country, which has already been plagued by numerous conflicts for a number of decades.

The latest US air raid in Somalia, marks the 51st strike to take place this year alone. It’s still not known weather the strike targeting Sakkow was conducted by an unmanned drone or the F-35 fighter jets, which are currently stationed on war ships off the Somali coast.
