Clashes erupted between Al Aqaeda affilaited insurgents from the Al Shabaab and troops from Somalia’s autonomous Puntland regional state in the north of the country.
The encounter between both sides unfolded in the mountainous Habar- Hagoogle area, which is situated south of the Galgala mountains in Bari province.
A short skirmish was reported to have taken place late in the evening yesterday, while a second encounter occurred early this morning.
A total of 10 militants where said to have been killed in the clashes, with three more being captured alive. One soldier from Somalia’s Puntland regional state was confirmed to have died in the clashes according to local media outlets.
The Puntland region of Somalia which has been relatively peaceful over the years has seen an uptick in militant activity in recent years.
