A military convoy carrying Ethiopian troops struck a roadside bomb on the volatile road linking the districts of Bardaale and Qansacdheere in occupied southern Somalia.
Sources reveal the Ethiopian army convoy departed the district of Bardaale and where en route to the district of Qansaxdheere, when there convoy struck two simultaneous roadside bombs. The convoy was subsequently engulfed in flames.
Following the blast the additional Ethiopian military convoys set up a perimeter and cordoned off the blast site. Sources confirm three Ethiopian troops where killed in the roadside bombing along with there Somali guide.
Shorty afterwards an unmarked helicopter was dispatched to the scene of the blast. The bodies of three soldiers from the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and there Somali guide where lifted onto the helicopter.
The helicopcter arrived soon afterwards in the nearby district of Qansaxdheere, which hosts a large Ethiopian army base. Sources have identified the deceased Somali guide as Cali Isaaq Macaalin better known by his nickname “Cali Wajaal”.
On the other hand, the Ethiopian troops killed in the blast are confirmed to be hailing from contingents outside the AMISOM mandate, which account for the vast majority of Ethiopian troops deployed in occupied Southern Somalia.
