A massive roadside bomb struck a military convoy carrying Ethiopian troops in the town of Halgan in central Somalia according to local correspondents.
The explosive device was camouflaged and attached to the ground under a tree and detonated as the occupying Ethiopian forces where in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses reveal five Ethiopian troops fell off the Lorry style convoy due to the impact of the blast.
Casualties remain unknown at the moment. Communication in the town was cut off shortly after the bomb blast. In recent years the town of Halgan has become a flashpoint between Al Shabaab and the Ethiopian armed forces, as the town has switched hands on multiple occasions.
Ethiopian troops continue to occupy large swaths of territory in Southern and central Somalia, with tens of thousands of troops deployed in the following provinces of Hiraan, Bakool, Gedo, Bay, Galgaduud along with contingent based in the port city of Kismaayo.
