17 prisoners escaped from a police custody in The town of Dabat in Northern Ethiopia’s Gonder province on Wednesday, reported AMMA. Two of the prisoners were in prison for homicide case. The rest of the prisoners were suspects for other offenses.
The prisoners escaped after digging the prison cell they were in, North Gondar Police Department deputy commander Dessie Muluye, told the news source. There were a total of 25 prisoners in the cell and 8 of the prisoners did not escape although they had the opportunity to do so.
The regional police are reportedly working on capturing those who escaped. Although the prison cell is a mud house, it is unclear as to how they managed to get tools to dig it in a way to enable them to escape from it.
