A series of blasts followed by gunfire rocked the vicinity of Janaale town in the Lower Shabelle province. Local contacts reveal around 1900 a barrage of blasts engulfed the outskirts of Janaale.

Locals in the area informed the Halgan Media service desk that the loud explosions where spontaneous and unexpected. The cause of the blast remain unknown.

The town of Janaale was recently seized by Somali Govt troops and allied Foreign forces making it impossible for opposing forces to access Janaale and its surrounding areas. Therefore the area remains militarized and sealed off.

Most of the town’s inhabitants have fled the area due to relentless US aerial bombardment from the US predator drones. All that remains of Janaale’s once vibrant farming community are a few nomadic families that live in fear due to the presence of the Foreign troops.

However, the Al Qaeda affiliated Militant group Al Shabaab released statement on tonight’s events near Janaale. According to a statement published on the Pro Militant mouthpiece dubbed Somali Memo, several Somali government troops and allied Foreign forces where killed when there convoy struck a roadside bomb followed by an Al Shabaab ambush.

Thr incident reportedly occurred as the joint contingent of Somali and allied Foreign forces where traveling on the volatile road connecting Janaale and the nearby village of Buufoow. The statement published on Somali Memo went further and claimed the military convoy was completely engulfed in flames.

Dozens of mortar shells than rained down at a military base in Janaale housing foreign forces, which lead to smoke billowing from the sky as reported by Somali Memo. The accuracy of these claims still remain up in the air.

The Somali Government and there Foreign backers rarely admit to encounters or casualties on the battlefield. The Mogadishu based Junta has proven inconsistent in countering Al Shabaab’s narrative.

This is viewed by many as a sign of weakness that’s been exploited over the years by the Al Qaeda affiliated Militant group Al Shabaab as they continue to wage there insurgency.
