Confirmed reports received from the Somali border town of Danlaheylay in Sitti province reveal a heavy movement of Afar paramilitary forces on the outskirts of town. The massive movement of Afar Paramilitaries has sparked a standoff with Somali pastoralists in the area according to local residents.
The Militants from the Afar regional state where spotted traveling in multiple Toyota pick up trucks, with dozens of men. Local Somalis in the border town of Danlaheylay have gathered together with small arms fire in a bid to deter the prospects of a cross border raid.
The Somali pastoralists are currently armed with light weapons and are no match for the heavily armed Afar Paramilitary Forces. Residents that reached out to the Halgan Media service desk reveal they’re fearful of an attack knowing there unable to withstand a cross border raid. The Somali border town of Danlaheylay mainly consists of pastoralists and rural villagers.
It was only a week ago, on the 11th of July when the same border town of Danlaheylay was targeted during a cross border raid, which left four civilians wounded. The Somali regional state (Ogaden) based in the capital Jigjiga is yet to address these rampant attacks targeting Somalis in the border region of Sitti.
