A massive movement of Ethiopian troops was spotted across Somalia’s Bay province according to eyewitnesses. The bulk of the troop movement took place on the volatile road between the city of Baydhabo and the Awdhiinle district.
Sources reveal, the troops numbering well into hundreds where spotted at “Isku Darka” which is a strategic military outpost between Baydhabo and Awdhiinle. At least 100 military convoys where spotted at the “Isku Darka” outpost as of last night.
The “Isku Darka” outpost is off strategic importance. Whoever controls this outpost controls the roads leading into the following cities of Baydhabo and Dinsoor in Bay province and the cities of Xudur and Wajid in the neighboring Bakool province.
Sources reveal as of this morning a large number of these Ethiopian military contingents departed the “Isku Darka” outpost and where spotted heading on the road to the city of Baydhabo. The city of Baydhabo houses the largest Ethiopian military base in Somalia, with tens of thousands of troops stationed in and around the vicinity of Baydhabo.
However the vast majority of Ethiopian troops still remain stationed behind at “Isku Darka” according to sources. It remains to be seen what next step these these troops take on there perilous journey through volatile southern Somalia.
Ethiopia justifies there illegal troop presence in Somalia under the guise of the US led war on terror, which has been waged in the country relentlessly over the past two decades.
The majority of Ethiopian troops occupying Somalia are deployed in the following provinces of Bay, Bakool, Gedo, Hiiraan and Galgaduud. However the exact number of Ethiopian troops in Somalia remains unknown but estimates put it at the tens of thousands.
