A mid afternoon raid in Northern Kenya’s Lamu county resulted in vast destruction of vehicles and lorries – local media reports reveal.
Suspected Al Shabaab militants carried out a brazen assault on construction site in the town of Milihoi off the Lamu coast. During the assault suspected militants engaged in clashes with Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) which resulted in an unknown number of casualties.
Trucks, lorries and a fuel tankers where reportedly damaged in the attack. County Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed the attack but did not go into further detail.
Today’s brazen attack on Milihoi comes just weeks after militants over a joint US and Kenyan military base, leading to the deaths of two US Department of Defense contractors and one US servicemen.
Al Shabaab militants entrenched in the nearby Bonni forest routinely carry out attacks in the Lamu county. The KDF have struggled for some time to cleanse the Bonni forest of militants, which has led to an ever so growing insurgency in the region.
Authorities in Nairobi are yet to address this latest terror attack as militant activity in Lamu county and the neighboring Somali inhabited NFD region continue to skyrocket.
We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
