A military convoy carrying Foreign troops from Uganada was ambushed while traveling on the volatile road between the towns of Awdheegle and Janaale in the Lower Shabelle province of Somalia. Local media reports reveal Militants from the Al Qaeda affiliated armed group carried out the ambush overnight.

The foreign troops reportedly left the town Janaale and where in route to Awdheegle, when they encountered the ambush. The casualties from this latest attack remain unknown. The African Union and the Soamli government are yet to comment on this latest incident.

On the other hand – the armed group Al Shabaab did claim responsibility for the ambush through a statement published on the pro militant mouthpiece dubbed Somali Memo. However did not reveal any details regarding casualties.

The town of Janaale was recently overrun by a joint unit of Somali, US and AMISOM forces after expelling Al Shabaab from the town after five years. Since the coalition forces overran Janaale the town has been a hub for Foreign military activity and other unidentified military personnel.
