As the crackdown on opposition figures and political opponents intensifies across Ethiopia, the chairman of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) Dawud Ibsa was placed under house over the weekend.

Geda Oljira, the head of the party’s gave a candid interview to the Amharic branch of the BBC and stated “an unspecified number of Federal police where deployed to the residence of the chairman”.

Oljira went further and revealed no one was allowed in or out of Dawud Ibsa’s residency and when Federal police approached there home, the police deployment to Dawud Ibsa home was to ensure security.

However, he said that the chairman’s mobility is restricted and that he is unable to carry out his daily duties, and that he might be arrested if he comes out of his residence, which has sparked deep suspicion within the OLF leadership and its support base.
