Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal local security forces carried out an unlawful arrest followed by an act of torture. Residents in the city of Wardheer in Eastern Ogaden reveal the incident occurred yesterday in the evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the local police approached Mohamed Bacluul, the chairman of the ONLF chapter in Doolo province while he was sitting in the open with colleagues. The police demanded Mohamed Bacluul follow them to the police car however Mohamed refused.
Mr Bacluul insisted that he be shown an arrest warrant since he had not committed any crime whatsoever. The police than violently grabbed Mohamed Bacluul in front of dozens of witnesses and forcefully took him to the police car as he was punched by officers.
Mohamed Bacluul also known as “Gaashaan” was than transferred to a local police precinct within the city of Warhdeer, wheres he’s been under arbitrary detention since last night. Mohamed was than brutally beaten and tortured while under police custody according to sources that spoke to Halgan Media on condition of anonymity.
The victim still remains illegally imprisoned as of the moment. Its has also been revealed that the governor of Doolo province Abdinasir Abdulle has ordered the arrest and torture of the ONLF official.
The arrest and torture of Mohamed Bacluul (Gashaan) comes just a day after nearly a dozen clan elders where arrested in the same city (Wardheer) on orders of the governor Abdinasir Abdulla.
Doolo province has seen an uptick in human rights violations in recent weeks, which in nearly all cases have been carried out by governor Abdinasir Abdulla. However authorities in the capital Jigjiga have turned a blind eye to these rampant human rights violations unfolding in Doolo, which many view as a sign of complicity.
