Confirmed reports received from the Ogaden reveal a series of clashes erupted in the Somali border town of Tuliguuleed and the surrounding villages.

Local contacts have informed the Halgan Media service desk that Oromo Paramilitaries and allied militias stormed the Somali border town of Tuliguuleed on foot, sparking fierce clashes with the locals.  The cross border raid led to intense skirmishes between both sides.

A second wave of attacks followed soon, this time targeting the nearby village of Tuur Caanood, situated 15 kilometers away from Tuliguuleed. This area was the scene of the most fierce fighting that pitted local Somali pastoralists up against heavily armed Oromo militias.

The Somalis in the village of Tuur Caanood where able to repel the cross border raid with small arms fire and lightly duty weapons. Local residents that spoke with Halgan Media on anonymity reveal two Oromo militia fighters where killed and a third wounded.

The Oromo Militants retreated shortly after the clashes in the direction of Jinicsani, an Oromo occupied Somali border town situated a mere 20 kilometers away. The bodies of the two dead Oromo Militants are still laying in a field near the village of Tuur Caanood according to eyewitnesses. The wounded Oromo Militant was whisked away by his comrades during the midst of the fighting.

The strategic Somali border town of Tuliguuleed is situated 25 kilometers north of Jigjiga and has been the scene of fierce clashes in recent years. As Oromo Paramilitaries and allied militias besieged and terrorize Somalis in the border region under the pretext of territorial expansionism, which has come at the cost of many Somalis.

The silence of Ethiopia’s federal government under the leadership of Abiy Ahmed in regards to these rampant attacks in the border is widely believed to be a sign a complicity. More than one million Somalis where vdisplaced from there land in 2018 alone by violent Oromo militia groups during Abiy Ahmed’s first year as prime minister according to the United Nations.

We will keep you updated with the latest developments from the region.
