Sporadic clashes followed by mass arrests plagued large parts of the city of Wardheer in Doolo province. The incident tipped off as a result of peaceful protests in the city against the Junta based in Jigjiga led by Mustafa Omar (Cagjar)

Liyuu Police where deployed to the scene of the protests in a bid to quash the peaceful protesters. Than the Liyuu Police began indiscriminately opening fire on unarmed protesters, forcing women and children to flee according to eyewitnesses.

Shortly after the protests and subsequent shooting, the Liyuu went on a rampage and began attacking civilians in different neighborhoods throughout the city. Hospitals where jam packed with wounded civilians that fell victim to the Liyuu Police onslaught. Arbitrary detention and mass arrests where also reported throughout the city, with the brunt of the round up’s taking place in the “Xafaada 1aad” neighborhood.

The office of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) in the city of Wardheer was also attacked by the Liyuu Police. The flag of the Liberation was torn to shreds and members inside the office where reportedly detained and subsequently arrested. What prompted the assault on the ONLF office remains unknown.

An accurate number of imprisoned and wounded civilians regarding the chaos in the city of Wardheer is hard to pinpoint for the time being. Tension in Wardheer and large parts of Doolo province have been non stop in recent weeks following the appointment of a former Abdi Iley affiliate as Governor of Doolo province. A man whose complicit in human rights violations and other grotesque abuses.

The Junta based in Jigjiga led by Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) is yet to comment on the latest round of violence in Wardheer targeting civilians and peaceful protesters. Many believe the utter silence from Mustafa Omar (Cagjar) is a sign of complicity.
