US AFRICOM has released a statement claiming responsibility for a drone raid in Somalia, that took place this past Thursday on the 20th of August.
According to AFRICOM, the strike took place in the vicinity of Kuntawaraay in the volatile Lower Shabelle province.
The target remains unknown as of the moment but the individual reportedly had a history of making explosives and was in the process of setting up IED’s on public roads the statement went on to say.
One insurgent was alleged to have been killed in the strike. AFRICOM has also stated there where no civilians killed or injured as a result of the drone strike.
The US has been under intense scrutiny and facing growing public backlash in recent months as the civilian death tole continues to rise from the American aerial bombardment in Somalia.
