The Al Aqaeda affiliated armed group Al Shabaab have taken credit for an overnight bomb attack in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The bombing which was the result of an IED attached to a vehicle detonated in the affluent Afisyooni neighborhood in Mogadishu’s Waberi district.

The blast was heard across much of Mogadishu. The target of the blast was said to have been an officer from Somalia’s notorious National Intelligence & Security Agency (NISA).

Local authorities have still not addressed the overnight car bombing in Mogadishu, however a statement published on the pro militant website dubbed Somali Memo, claims one intelligence agent was killed in the blast.

The intelligence officer killed in the blast has only been identified as Nuur. The Somali capital Mogadishu has been plagued by an uptick of bombings and assassinations in recent weeks.
