Fierce clashes erupted overnight, when Al Shabaab fighters launched an assault targeting an Ethiopian army base near base in occupied southern Somalia. The clashes erupted in the Ethiopian occupied town of Wajiid, situated in Somalia’s Bakool province.

Troops on patrol outside the base reportedly came under fire by militants, which left to the deaths of two Ethiopian soldier in the ensuing gun battle. The militants stripped weapons from the bodies of the dead Ethiopian troops shortly after the exchange of gunfire.

Sources that spoke with the Halgan Media service desk on condition of anonymity reveal the militants fled into the bushes following the ambush. No further details where provide by local sources regarding the aftermath of the ambush.

Al Shabaab militants regularly carry out attacks targeting the Foreign troops in Somalia. An estimated 50, 000 foreign troops are currently deployed throughout the country. This includes AMISOM and non AMISOM contingents.

The foreign forces routinely carry out massacres and atrocities against civilians, which has only fueled the insurgency in the war torn country.
