Al Shabaab militants carried out a brazen attack targeting local officials in southwest Somalia, according to sources that spoke with Halgan Media on condition of anonymity.

Sources reveal the deputy mayor of Goofguduud-buureey town in Bay province identified as Abdulkaadir Adam Nageeye was wounded in a drive by shooting. The personal body guard of the driver was also struck in the hail of bullets.

The deputy mayor and his guards where traveling near Bardaale district when they came under fire. Sources reveal the body guard suffered minor wounds, while the deputy mayor sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso.

The vehicle carrying the deputy mayor and his guards was also riddled in bullets. Abdulkaadir Adam Nageeye is said to be in critical condition at the moment and fighting for his life at a medical facility in Bardaale district. Weather he pulls through remains to be seen.

Its not clear what prompted Abdulkaadir Adam Nageeye and his body guards to depart Goofguduud-buureey or why they where in route to Bardaale. However there movement was picked up by Al Shabaab, therefore laying a trap for the entourage in the midst of there journey according to sources.

Al Shabaab remains Al Qaeda’s most strongest ally on the African continent and maintains an intelligence network far more intricate than that of the Somali government. This has enabled Al Shabaab over the years to carry out attacks on government officials and high profile targets at will.
