Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has appointed Mohamed Hussein Roble as the new prime minister after 55 days. The former prime minister Hassan Ali Khayre was impeached following a no confidence motion that was tabled against him on July 25th.
Its not clear, why it took President Farmaajo 55 days to appoint a new prime minister. It’s widely believed that the president postponed the appointal of the premier as a delay tactic for political purposes.
However what’s for is that the new prime minister has only 143 days remaining in office before his time ends. His appointal as prime minister has sparked debate amongst Somalis from all walks of life.
Mohamed Hussein Roble was born in the coastal city of Hobyo in Mudug province of central Somalia in 1963. During his later years he attended university in the Somali capital Mogadishu and graduated just one before the start of the Somali civil war.
Following the collapse of the Somali nation, Mohamed Hussein Roble fled his homeland to the relative safety of Scandinavia, where he was granted refugee status and later became a naturalized Swedish citizen.
Mohamed settled down in Stockholm and had five children and in the process graduated with a masters in Environmental Engineering and Sustainabale Infrastructure from the university of Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan.
Mohamed spent 14 years working for the UN agency dubbed International Labour Organization (ILO) and has never any political experience as of until now, which has casted doubts wheather he can fulfil the duties as premier in a nation gripped by three decades of turmoil and anarchy.
