A series of strikes carried out by suspected US drones hit a gathering of Al Shabaab fighters in the vicinity of Amreereey, situated outside the Jilib district in Somalia’s Jubba Valley.
A report by SNA Radio, which is the official mouthpiece of the Somali armed forces confirmed a drone strike taking place in Somalia’s volatile Middle Jubba province, which has been a militant stronghold for well over a decade.
A barrage of missiles from an unmanned vehicle aircraft, commonly referred to as a Drone hit a private venue hosting senior Al Shabaab commanders and a number of foot soldiers just outside the district of Jilib, according to SNA Radio.
The revelations relayed via SNA Radio states that all the militants numbering a total of 18 where instantly killed in the drone raid, including a senior Al Shabaab member identified as Sheikh Abdullahi Ali Adan.
SNA Radio did not reveal why Sheikh Abdullahi Adan and so many foot soldiers where conjured together in Amreereey, but did state the deceased Militant commander Sheekh Abdullahi Ali Adan oversaw financial operations in the Jubba Valley for Al Shabaab.
The Al Aqaeda affiliated armed group Al Shabaab are yet to address these latest claims by Somalia’s armed forces via SNA Radio. On a similar note, AFRICOM which oversees US military operations on the African continent is yet to comment on the latest high profile drone drone raid in Somalia.
